Dive head-first into the world of art with our courses and workshops. Following the atelier approach of learning through observation and practice, our students are encouraged to choose their own subjects, compose their own artworks, take risks, and make mistakes. Your teacher, a professional artist, will be on hand at every step for advice and encouragement.
Our 6-week workshops develop students' visual sensibility through art theory, history, and techniques. Two introductory courses lay the foundations, and further study can be pursued in any order. Our goal is to share the beauty of the creative process, teach skills through practice, and build your confidence as an artist.
$350/workshop on an 'a la carte' basis (6-week commitment) OR $225/month for a 2-course bundle (3-month commitment)
Price includes all materials, but students are welcome to bring personal supplies such as brushes and oil colors. Experienced students may skip prerequisites upon approval.

PART 1: GRISAILLE
Class meets weekly for 2 hours
Prerequisites: Intro to Drawing, Intro to Painting
A grisaille is a method of underpainting used by the Old Masters, in which a painting is completed in grayscale. This allows the artist to focus on the shape and form of their subject before getting distracted by color. This 6-week workshop walks students through the process of painting their own grisaille portrait.
PART 2: GLAZING
Class meets weekly for 2 hours
Prerequisites: Intro to Drawing, Intro to Painting, Self-Portraits in Oil Part 1
After completing a grisaille underpainting, the Old Masters used a technique called glazing to add color to their artworks. This 6-week workshop explains the glazing process and its pitfalls, turning students’ greyscale self-portraits into full-color artworks.

Abstract painting takes all the lessons and concepts of classical art and removes the complications of representing an actual subject. Students learn the different ways in which viewers respond to the elements of an artwork, and how to design works that speak to your target audience.
