Oil Painting Workshop at KAUST

I’m very proud to announce a workshop that I’ll be offering through the KAUST Art Club! KAUST is a graduate research university of science and technology situated on the Red Sea. To quote King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (1924-2015), “KAUST shall be a beacon for peace, hope and reconciliation, and shall serve the people of the Kingdom and the world.” The Art Club’s goal is to create an Art Center for the KAUST community.

The workshop is an overview of traditional painting techniques open to artists & art enthusiasts of all levels and experience. Over the course of six-weeks, we will follow the classical process, designing and building an oil painting slowly and deliberately – one layer at a time. You’ll learn about the different methods of creating an artwork, as well as the best approaches from a conservational point of view. We’ll examine famous artworks from the past, and learn how to use similar time-tested techniques in your own work. By the end of the course, you’ll have an overview of the skills with which to approach any subject matter with oils, and a vibrant painting to prove it.

The course is open to KAUST students, faculty, staff, administrators and community members. For more information and registration, visit https://thelens.kaust.edu.sa/?p=72804. Please note, The Lens can be accessed by anyone using the KAUST network. External visitors will not be able to view it.
